Career Opportunities
Mission Critical Engineering is a new company founded in 2008 to develop and service equipment using the new APCO Project 25 (P25) standard for public safety radio system component interoperability. P25 standards specify the interfaces between system components (radios, trunking systems and consoles) so components from different manufacturers can be used in the same public safety radio system. In a P25 system, audio is digitized once, then routed throughout the system embedded in IP packets according to the P25 protocols.
Older legacy systems of different jurisdictions were patched together for interoperable communications by converting the audio back to an analog 4-wire interface for handing off between systems where it may be digitized again by the next system. Conversely, P25 systems can be interconnected via an Ethernet link so the digitized audio can be passed between many systems before reaching its final destination where it is converted back into analog audio. This results in the ultimate interoperability and flexibility in interconnecting many systems without degrading audio or requiring expensive hardware for a 4-Wire interface for each audio path on each system.
At MCE we believe these new P25 standards provides an opportunity to enter the public safety market to competitively compete with the two major providers of public safety communications equipment. With lower overhead, and without the burden of supporting lower tech, less reliable systems, we believe we can beat the competition in cost and reliability. Our experience with public safety radio systems, data communications protocols, and IP networking, put us in a unique position to capitalize on these new standards.
